Apparently Michigan recently launched a rather large ad campaign trying to promote tourism to the state. Who besides the Jensen's would think, "yeah, that sounds like a great idea!"? Well, Kate was the planner of our weekend getaway and I think we all agree MI was gorgeous and we would go back in a heartbeat!
Drew and I arrived later in the evening on Friday so we started our adventure on Saturday. After an incredible brunch at a little restaurant called The Boat House, we started our day with some wine tasting (fortunately for the rest of the crew there is currently an obvious DD!). One of our stops included a place not far from where we had brunch. While the wine wasn't the best we've ever had, the scenery and company were perfect!
Sunday's big adventure was a road trip to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore near Glen Arbor. After a very quick hike through some woods we reached Pyramid Point. The view was spectacular! Drew and Kate weren't quite satisfied with the difficulty of the hike so they decided hiking down the dunes to the lake shore would be an added benefit (personally, I knew my current lung capacity would never enable me to get back up the dunes).
(yes, the dunes were really that steep - I could not believe they were doing this!!!!)
Right before our flights out on Monday we decided to make one last stop - the Traverse City Distillery - maker of True North Vodka. Kate and Drew were the only two that partook in the tastings - both were pleasantly surprised and walked away with a bottle (or two!).
Overall we had a fabulous weekend of relaxing and catching up with Mom and Kate. We don't all get together very often so I really, really appreciate the times that we do.
A huge thank you to Kate for organizing the weekend, and an even bigger thank you to Mom for making it all happen!
